Down Royal Park Golf Course at the Maze has started a process of major change to its facilities. A program of work has been put in place to introduce a new driving range, give the clubhouse a facelift and do some additional work on the course. All of the work being undertaken is part of an overhaul which the parent company is keen to do, to move the venue forward.The new General Manager, Greg Bailie, discussed these changes. “The course and associated playing facilities will always be the focus for our work here,” he said. “We have already started with some work on the course in spring this year to improve the greens and this will now continue into the autumn.”“We are doing some more drainage work, to make the course even more playable in the winter and the first phase of the new driving range has already started. This over time changes the profile of the soil structure and allows for firmer, truer and more disease resistant greens. DOWN ROYAL PREPARES FOR WINTER WITH COURSE IMPROVEMENT PLAN
Down Royal Park Golf Course is renowned as being one of Ireland’s driest golf courses due to its unique free draining sandy substructure and exceptional man-made drainage.In preparation for the incoming Winter season, a series of improvements have been completed across both the 18-hole Classic and 9-hole Valley Courses. The work on the Classic Course includes additional drainage, new hazards and reshaping of fairways. Specific trees have also been removed to improve both cut and aesthetics while existing bunkers have been significantly reshaped to provide golfers with new, exciting challenges. Various mounds have been shaped, specifically at holes 7, 12 and 15 aimed at improving playability for all golfers.The overall result will significantly improve the current golf offerings and will aim to test even the most experienced of golfers.
