Our ‘Classic’ 18 hole course has been holding up well to the inclement weather conditions and although there are some wet areas on the course there is very little casual water mainly due to the sandyloam soil underfoot. We are still playing preferred lies throughout but our greens have been by far our greatest asset this season, rolling true and running at a decent pace considering we are still on our Winter cut.
Recently, we have started to add shape to our fairways in a bid to refresh and improve our current golf product. We have decided to change our cutting pattern by changing from stripes to two-tone split on our fairways, in a bid to differentiate ourselves from the crowd. Add these changes to building new tee boxes, adding drainage and future protective bunkering then we are in a healthy shape for Summer 2014.
The ‘Valley’ course has been draining well, the fairways are particularly firm underfoot. Additionally, the greens have been massively improved as they are getting the same cutting height/treatment as the ‘Classic’ course and as a result, are rolling a lot truer. Add to that the development of larger landing areas for the Par 3’s and it is currently in good shape.
It has to be said that our ‘Meadows’ pitch and putt course have to have the firmest greens I have seen anywhere all Winter, the height you have to hit the ball to allow it to stop is impressive and a testament to our greenstaff.
