Down Royal is renowned for its superb quick drainage due to a mix of natural filtering sand and soil, as well as efficient man-made drainage. This superb drainage has greatly assisted in establishing Down Royal as one of the driest Golf facilities in Ireland which is playable all year round and open when most other courses are closed due to adverse weather conditions!
Down Royal is currently taking a step further and is introducing over 1,000 metres of new main drainage on the 18 Hole Classic Course and the 9 Hole Valley Course, further assisting the existing superb drainage, reinforcing and fortifying the Golf Courses against flooding and partial/full closure for many years to come. The superb sand soil mix removed during the drainage work will be used to develop new and extend and improve existing tee boxes this winter.
